The Search For Friendship
THE SEARCH FOR FRIENDSHIP
Proverbs 18:24
A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
Look around and think about all the people;e that we pass by on a daily basis. Many of them we have never seen before and many we see every time we go to work, school, college and even church. How many of them can you count as a friend? One, a few, or a handful maybe?
When the Bibles talks about having a friend or friends it is not talking about how many people we may have as a "friend" on our social media account; it is referring to someone that we can rely on, someone that we trust and share our heart, our thoughts and someone that we can find good advice and counsel.
The Bible says in one version of Proverbs 18:24, "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.", To have the kind of friend that stays around regardless of the circumstances, might be difficult to find. But if we look in God's Word, that friend is not too far away and His name is Jesus Christ, who came to this world to save us from hell and to give us eternal life. John 15:13, "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends."
By offering His life for ours, He also gave us the privilege and blessing to find in Him a true friend, a friend that loves us and wants the best for us. As an old hymn I grew up on says, "What a friend we have in Jesus".
