Sedevacantism
We believe that the Church is in a period of “sede vacante”. "Sedevacantism" is a theological position embraced by traditionalist Catholics which holds that the Papal See is vacant. The term "sedevacantism" is derived from the Latin phrase sede vacante, which literally means "while the seat is vacant," the seat in question being that of the Papal See.
And while we believe that the Church is in a period of “sede vacante”, it is also a matter of Catholic Faith to believe in the necessity of a Pope. Indeed, Our Lord Jesus Christ who is the Head of the Church – the Head of the Mystical Body – instructed His Church to have a Vicar. This Vicar would be a man who would be the visible leader of the Church on earth until the time when the invisible head returns.
All Catholics should believe in the Papacy, and they should also believe that the Church can exist for a time without a Vicar – this is simply an historical truth as well as a Theological Truth. The Church is indestructible and though it may appear to be in a dark time, and that it appears that there is no leader on the horizon, we must have the Faith and belief that Our Lord – in His good time- will reveal to us in whatever way and manner He wills - what is next.
“...they that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not be weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).
And so though we now sojourn without the directing voice and action of our visible head, the Church is not left orphaned or destitute. During this time of the vacancy of the Papacy, our Lord Jesus Christ remains as ever the Head of His Church, and His divine grace still flows into the world and into the souls of those who avail themselves of it.
"Seek ye therefore first the kingdom of God, and his justice, and all these things shall be added unto you. Be not therefore solicitous for tomorrow; for the morrow will be solicitous for itself." (Matthew 6:33-34)
To God be the glory always!
